| AUDITOR’S EXPERIENCE |
| When I spoke to the receptionist about talking to the person who handles public records requests I was directed to a separate door with a window labeled "Records". The window had no speaking tube, only a slot in the side so I was pretty much forced to slide the oral questions card in to them saying this is what I wanted. The woman who took it, went into the back to consult with a colleague and when she came forward, my cover was blown. Jan has been working at the Sheriff's Office a long time and knows me. Anyway, she did not ask what I wanted the information for, only let me know that the Form 700 was kept in personnel adn they would retrieve it from there. As for the other two questions, she indicated she would have to make the request "through the chain of command." I handed over the longer list and she took it, date stamped one for me and said she would be in touch. I got the impression she was happy to be helpful, but would never simply give over anything out of the ordinary without clearance from someone on high. A day later I got a call from one of the Captains who knew me and said they were trying to get the info for me. Then I got the County Counsel's letter extending time.
