    AUDITOR’S EXPERIENCE
I entered the front lobby area of the Murrieta Police department and spoke to a clerk who asked what I needed. I explained that I wanted to speak to the person who handled public records requests. I was asked what I wanted, and repeated my request to speak to the person who handled the public records requests. After a few moments, I spoke to a clerk (her name is on my paperwork you have) and she spent several minutes asking me questions about the information I was seeking. She also asked me to identify myself and whether I was representing any organization or media outlet. She explained that information was needed before the information request would be acted on. I handed her my business card. She spoke with me for several more minutes seeking to clarify what I was looking for. She said the request would be forwarded on and someone would be getting back with me. She also handed me some documents (I cant recall what they were) that were part of the request. She did mention the form 700 was not kept in the building. Several days later, I received a telephone call from Simone McFarland, who confirmed some of the information we were seeking and let me know a response would be coming within days. On Dec. 13, a police department representative dropped off a package of information at my office in Hemet, including the form 700 and various other papers. There was also a letter explaining in detail what was inside the packet. About a week later, I received in the mail another packet of information from the police department that included arrest and crime logs. There was no charge for the copies. Overall, the records request was complete, except for the deaths in custody reports, since there were none that had taken place.
