Auditor Narrative (auditor Mitchell Wilson):

I entered the office and the receptionist there and made the request for the form 700 and the ethics training. She seemed a little surprised at my request but was very friendly and called someone to see if they had the forms on file. I was told that the person who could give me the records was on a lunch break and asked if I was willing to wait about 15 minutes. I said yes and was met by Kauai Bock, the secretary for GJUESD Superintendent Karen Schauer.

Bock was very friendly and gave me multiple cover pages for the Form 700 that were had actual information on them and one schedule B: Interests in Real Property. She asked me for my name which I gave her and asked if I was with any group, which I responded by saying 'newspaper' without other details. Bock said she would try and get the other records (ethics training) for me.

Overall both people I talked to at the GJUESD were very polite and seemed like they wanted to help me as much as they could.

CalAware Reaction (Terry Francke, General Counsel):

The district provided the Form 700s promptly but required the auditor's name, affiliation and written request for the forms. As to the information requested in the letter, there was a prompt acknowledgment letter from the district's law firm but no determination letter or an announcement of extension until April 15, beyond the legally required response period. The letter did not refuse access to any public records in the district's possession.
